Privacy Policy

Align (“Align,” “we,” “us”) is a social calendar app that helps you plan events, manage tasks, and share your availability with friends. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Align you agree to this policy.

1. Information we collect

Account information

• Your email address and a password, used to create and secure your account (passwords are handled by our authentication provider and stored hashed — we never see them in plain text).

Profile information

• Your name, username, and optional details you choose to add: pronouns, bio, birthday, phone number, and a profile photo or colored avatar.

Content you create

• Calendar events (titles, times, locations, notes, categories), tasks, and their details.
• Your friends list, friend requests, event invitations, and RSVP responses.
• Your calendar-visibility settings, including per-friend sharing preferences.
• Feedback or bug reports you submit, which include limited technical context (app version, device/browser type, screen size, and the screen you were on) to help us reproduce issues.

Connected calendars (Google & Microsoft)

• If you choose to connect Google Calendar or Outlook/Microsoft, we access your calendar events on a read-only basis and store a copy so they can appear inside Align. See the Google user data and Microsoft user data sections below for details. Connecting is entirely optional and you can disconnect at any time.

Text invitations

• If you invite someone to an event by text, we store the phone number and any name you provide, solely to create and (where enabled) deliver that invitation.

Usage & device information

• Basic product-analytics and diagnostic data — such as feature usage, device and browser type, and general performance — to understand how Align is used and to improve it.

2. How we use your information

• To provide and operate Align — your calendar, tasks, friends, planning, and sharing features.
• To sync and display events from calendars you connect.
• To send you in-app notifications and reminders you’ve enabled.
• To respond to your feedback and fix bugs.
• To secure the service, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your calendar content to serve advertising.

3. How your information is shared

• With other Align users you choose: friends see only what your visibility settings allow (full details, titles only, availability only, or nothing), and you can override this per friend. People you invite to an event see that event’s details.
• With service providers that operate Align on our behalf — for hosting, database, authentication, product analytics, and (where enabled) message delivery. They may process data only to provide their services to us.
• For legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Align and its users.

4. Google user data

When you connect Google Calendar, you grant Align read-only access to your calendar (the calendar.readonly scope). We use this access only to: (1) fetch your events and display them within Align alongside the plans you create, and keep them in sync while you remain connected; and (2) compute your free/busy availability, which is shown to the friends you choose according to your calendar-visibility settings (event details are never shared beyond what those settings allow).

Connecting a calendar alone grants only read access. If you additionally turn on Google Meet links for a scheduling page, Align requests the calendar.events scope and uses it for one purpose: to create, update and cancel the specific appointment somebody books through your Align scheduling page, so that it carries a Meet link. Align never modifies, moves or deletes any other event on your calendar, and if you do not enable Meet links this access is never requested.

Align’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

• We only access the Google data needed to provide calendar features you request.
• We do not use Google data for advertising.
• We do not sell Google data, and we do not transfer it to others except as needed to provide or improve Align, for security, or to comply with the law.
• We do not allow humans to read your Google data except with your consent for support, for security purposes, to comply with the law, or where the data has been aggregated and anonymized.

You can disconnect Google at any time in Align’s settings, and you can revoke Align’s access at your Google Account permissions. When you disconnect, we delete the synced copy of your Google events.

5. Microsoft user data

When you connect Outlook/Microsoft, you grant Align read-only access to your calendar. We use it only to fetch and display your events within Align. You can disconnect at any time in settings, or revoke access from your Microsoft account, after which we delete the synced copy.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data, subject to any retention required by law. Synced external-calendar data is removed when you disconnect that calendar or delete your account.

7. Security

We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit and access controls such as row-level security — to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.

8. Your choices & rights

• Access, update, or delete your profile and content from within the app.
• Control what each friend can see with per-friend visibility settings.
• Connect or disconnect external calendars at any time.
• Opt out of usage, performance, and crash/diagnostics data collection at any time in Settings → Privacy. Turning it off stops all such data from being sent.
• Delete your account, which removes your personal data.
• Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights (such as access, correction, deletion, or portability); contact us to exercise them.

9. Community content & conduct

Align lets you create and share content with others — profile details, event titles and notes, invitations, and similar user-generated content. You are responsible for the content you create and share, and you must have the right to share it.

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content or abusive behavior. You may not use Align to post, share, or send content that is unlawful, harassing, threatening, hateful, sexually explicit, defamatory, or that infringes others’ rights, and you may not impersonate others or abuse, harass, or intimidate any user.

To keep the community safe, Align provides tools to:

• Block another user, which stops them from interacting with you or seeing your shared content.
• Report a user or content you believe violates these standards.

We review reports of objectionable content and abusive users and act on them — typically within 24 hours — by removing the content and/or removing the offending user. We may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these standards. To report content or a user outside the app, contact us at vinh@aligncalendar.com.

10. Children

Align is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will remove it.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll revise the “Last updated” date above and, for material changes, provide notice within the app.
